Stages of the heat cycle
Call your vet if:
- The heat lasts longer than about 4 weeks.
- Bleeding is very heavy, or she seems weak or unwell.
- She has pus-like or foul-smelling discharge, drinks and urinates a lot, vomits, or is unusually tired in the weeks after a heat. These can be signs of a womb infection and need urgent care.
- She has not had a first heat by about 24 months, or her heats are less than 4 months apart.
